AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROGRAM

MAD MAC will develop, finance and operates affordable, program-enriched housing communities for families, seniors and people with special needs who lack the economic resources to access quality, safe-housing opportunities.

MAD MAC’s mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with support services for low-income people in the Inland Empire community and be a leader in making the neighborhood a better place to live.

WHAT IS MAD MAC FOUNDATION AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROGRAM?

Since 1998, MAD MAC FOUNDATION (Making A Difference Making A Change) has been committed to making the Los Angeles and surrounding neighborhoods a better place to live. We provide safe, affordable housing and support services in order to lay the foundation for a better quality of life for low-income people in California.

At MAD MAC FOUNDATION, we know that housing is the foundation on which people build their lives. And we know that due to the high cost of living in California, many low-income individuals, seniors, and families are forced to choose between paying rent and other necessities like food and healthcare.

Our unique approach to supportive housing will combine safe, affordable home environments with free and voluntary on-site social services to help tenants stabilize their lives and find resources for special medical, mental health, or substance addiction issues. We also will provide the community with an after-school program where neighborhood children can rely on a safe place to play and learn, and a community-organizing program that encourages residents to get involved in making positive change to strengthen the fabric of the neighborhoods we serve.

OUR RESIDENTS

70% of the residents that will occupy our buildings will have annual incomes below $14,000. They will include seniors on fixed incomes, emancipated youth from the foster care system, low-wage workers, families on tight budgets, people with HIV/AIDS, and formerly homeless individuals recovering from substance abuse or mental illness.
• Many seniors who will live independently in M.A.D. M.A.C. buildings will have the aid of our support services.
• Some of our residents will have disabilities or special needs.
• Some of our people will be formerly homeless, including families with children.
• Some of our individuals will have a mental illness diagnosis.
• Some of the children, many of whom will live with single parents.
• Some self-identified people will be living with HIV/AIDS.

OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

While we will serve many of Inland Empire low-income neighborhoods, our roots will be in the communities most hit by poverty. This vibrant neighborhood is one of the last places in San Bernardino that many low-income individuals, families, and seniors can afford to live. While it suffers from social problems typical of many crowded urban environments, including drug and alcohol abuse, violence, high unemployment, and overcrowding, M.A.D. M.A.C. FOUNDATION will face these challenges head-on, striving to revitalize the community while preserving its unique architecture, character, and diversity.

OUR STAFF

Our diverse and dedicated staff members will be committed to MADMAC’s mission to improve the fabric of our neighborhood.

ON-SITE SOCIAL SERVICES

Our tailored approach to supportive housing will combine affordable and safe home environments, which will provide free on-site social services. M.A.D. M.A.C. will staff social workers to help tenants stabilize their lives, find resources for special medical, mental health or substance abuse issues and develop a sense of community within our buildings. This system will foster stable resident populations and increases the likelihood that our tenants will become more successful and self-sufficient members of society.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZING

M.A.D. M.A.C.’s Community Organizing department will strive to involve the community in neighborhood revitalization efforts by encouraging residents and local businesses to become more involved. Through resident leadership development, community outreach, and other events, M.A.D.M.A.C. will seek to strengthen the community’s voice and address issues regarding public safety, civic engagement, and other critical topics that impact the neighborhood.

M.A.D. M.A.C.’s AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

Many children call the Inland Empire home. M.A.D. M.A.C. will address the need for a safe, supervised space for many of these children to play in downtown San Bernardino. The program will be open six days a week and will be free to all who enroll. Through a combination of recreational outings, academic support, and leadership training, M.A.D. M.A.C. will enrich the lives of the children in the neighborhood and will help them pave the way for bright and successful futures.

MAD MAC EDU-TAINMENT PROGRAM

EDUCATION & ENTERTAINMENT ENTREPRENEURSHIP MUSIC BASED PROGRAM

M.A.D. M.A.C. believes that the future lives on through the actions of our youth and we must educate our youth to be positive and productive members of society. We believe education starts at home, blossoms in schools, and flourishes in the community. While M.A.D. M.A.C. realizes that education is a key and essential part of youth success and subsequent career opportunities, we use a realistic approach to raising youth out of poverty, crime, and violence, by offering alternative options for high-risk youth. Our programs focus on learning through hands-on experience such as working with and learning from people in vocational industries such as music, entertainment, film, fashion, real estate, construction, and small businesses. We feel that a full 92% of high-risk youth do not pursue or complete a post-secondary education program, we should provide youth with exposure to a myriad of career choices, which include traditional college education’s, vocational fields, trades, and private industry.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN A CHILD’S LIFE “OUR FUTURE”

Mission Statement

The mission of M.A.D. M.A.C. is to provide an innovative, cost-effective, accessible approach to problems facing at risk youth and adults in society who are negatively impacted by gangs, crime, and peer pressure. These factors contribute greatly to diminished education outcomes in our youth and students, many of whom need psychological tools and training to correct negative attitudes and motivate themselves to make better life choices.

Purpose

The purpose of M.A.D. M.A.C. is to provide a comprehensive Entrepreneurship based educational training program that facilitates the implementation of self-esteem, life management skills, and opportunities for careers in the entertainment, real estate, pro-sound, and videography industries. At the completion of the program, students will be able to expand on their training in such fields as, sales, video production, sound production, management, promotion, production, marketing, and public relations within the entertainment, real estate, loan, pro-sound, and videography industry. The program gives our students a creative outlet to positively channel their energies, while acquiring the skills they need for future financial independence through entrepreneurship.

History

M.A.D. M.A.C. FOUNDATION was founded in April of 1996, with a vision to keep at risk youths away from gangs, drugs, and the many negative avenues presented to youth today. While growing up around gangs and drugs, our founder found sports, dancing, and music to be an outlet from the harsh realities of the streets and projects. With the growing support of many nationally recognized celebrities, Kevin strives to continue to provide children and young adults with an opportunity to create a way out of the inevitable realities of incarceration and death.

Curriculum

The M.A.D. M.A.C. program provides an alternative education experience that accelerates applied learning experiences. Upon program completion, students are prepared to reenter the classroom for further and higher education.

The Math curriculum focuses on applied math in inventory management, budget preparation, royalty calculations, and accounting principles (receivables and payables). Constant calculation using computers and pencil are a part of the daily educational experience.

The English curriculum includes a daily journal of events (written communication). Verbal communication with music artists, clients, and sponsors enhance the student’s public speaking skills. The expression of ideas and experiences are verbalized in-group sessions and students are required to put their ideas and thoughts on paper. Grammar and spelling are emphasized daily. The exchange of ideas among students is encouraged, and individual reports are researched, written and presented by the students.

Science technology is a daily part of the curriculum. Students are taught how to operate personal computers (software & hardware), recording and editing techniques, PA systems, mixing boards, and other sound/production equipment. The understanding of how and why the electronic equipment and techniques operate are a key part of the curriculum. MAD MAC provides a general base for studies in this scientific technology field. These components of science are truly applied in each student’s daily life and become second nature.

Self-esteem develops as a result of students working together as a team. Students successfully work together on projects from start to finish. The development of team spirit and the desire to allow others to have input in their daily life transfers a need to be part of a working and creative society. Students learn to consider what others think and how others react to everyday stress. They also learn how to function under pressure with grace.
